Welcome to Kevin's Nature Photos

Thanks for visiting my site. It is obviously dedicated to my photography. Most of the photos here have been taken in Florida and most of those here in Charlotte County Florida or the surrounding area. I have been an amateur photographer for years focusing on nature and the outdoors. Since 2003 I have been a shorebird monitor here in Charlotte County helping to protect the beach nesting bird species on our barrier islands. So, I am and have been an avid bird watcher! Most of the pictures you find here showcase the beautiful birds that visit our area at sometime in the year. I hope you will enjoy perusing my site and find as much beauty in the photos as I find while out taking the pictures.

I am hoping to turn this into a "Where to go in Charlotte County page" for various locations. Because I am a shorebird monitor I spend a lot of time at the beach, primarily Stump Pass Beach State Park and the bridgeless barrier islands in Charlotte County. The area around Stump Pass is usually abundant with shorebirds, especially the south side of the pass on which Palm Island Resort is located. The 2003 dredge of the pass helped to form a saltwater lake just south of the pass and there has been a four acre mitigation site dedicated to shorebird nesting created near there. Some of the rarer species seen here are Reddish Egrets, Snowy Plovers, Piping Plovers (winter) Red Knots(migrating), Black Terns(migrating), Black Skimmers and American Avocets(migrating). Nesting birds include American Oystercatchers, Wilson's Plovers, Snowy Plovers, Least Terns and Black Skimmers.

Little Gasparilla Pass is also located in Charlotte County and some of the same species will be found near there but in less abundance. Snowy Plovers, Wilson's Plovers, Least Terns and American Oystercatchers have been known to nest in the area near this pass also.
