The Black Skimmer is a very beautiful and
unique bird. They do nest in colonies here in Charlotte County. I
might expect to see a colony nesting on Palm Island near Stump Pass this
year. They have nested near Stump Past in the past and seem to prefer
freshly dredged spoil areas. With the dredging of Stump Pass last April
and the great amount of spoil that has accumulated on Palm Island just south of
the pass it will make an excellent site. I'll keep you posted. The
other very likely place to find them is at Port Charlotte Beach on Charlotte
Harbor.
