The Burrowing Owl is an
unusual bird. The only place it is found east of the Mississippi
is here in
Florida. We used to
see
them here on the Cape Haze Peninsula, but I haven't seen any here for a couple
of years. They are fairly common however south and east of the Peace River.
They prefer open mowed land or pasture land where they can see for a
way from their burrow. Punta Gorda or Burnt Store are both good places.
I also got one of these pictures out on Hwy 74 in
east county.
