Size - 9 1/2" : Barred breast, white throat and spotted back.

The Burrowing Owl is an unusual bird.  The only place it is found east of the Mississippi is here in Florida.  We used to see them here on the Cape Haze Peninsula, but I haven't seen any here for a couple of years.  They are fairly common however south and east of the Peace River.  They prefer open mowed land or pasture land where they can see for a way from their burrow.  Punta Gorda or Burnt Store are both good places.  I also got one of these pictures out on Hwy 74 in east county.
