Size : 23"  Checkered white patches at the wing tips in flight.  Long white neck, head and whitish tail with a large dark band at the tip.   Black cap and belly, orange red at the base of the bill and bluish silver at the tip.

The Crested Caracara is one of the many endangered species found in south Florida.  In Charlotte County they are rare, sometimes seen soaring over farmland or sitting on fence posts in the far eastern part of the county.  These pictures werw taken just a few miles east in Hendry County on Highway 74.
