Cattle Egret

Size : 20"   White over all with a short orange bill.  Breeding adults have rusty orange crest and rusty orange belly.

Cattle Egrets nest here in Charlotte County.  They are found along the edge of highways, farm fields and sometimes parking lots.  Cattle Egrets are not waders, but feed mostly on insects and lizards.  I found this one nesting on a small island in a rookery of Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Anhingas, Black Crowned Night Herons and Cormorants.
