Woodpeckers  (Photos by Kevin Edwards)

We have primarily Slash Pine and Oak forests  with lots of undergrowth here.  Every spring the underbrush dries out and brush fires spark.  For this reason there many areas with dead or dying trees and great habitat for woodpeckers. Click on the links below to get detailed photos and a link to the USGS site about each species. USGS links includes the song, taxonomy, history, identification tips and more!
