American Kestrel

Size - 9" : Colorful falcon with a long tail.  Wings dark and tail reddish-brown.  Two sideburns visible when perching.     

 The Kestrel small falcon that feeds on grasshoppers, insects and small rodents. It is more prevelent in winter, but it does nest here in Florida.  It likes open areas and is usually quick to flight when approached.
