Size - 10" : Only Plover in the United States with two neck rings.  Brown back white belly.

Killdeers are generally upland plovers.  They nest on the ground in the gravel hiding their eggs only by camoflauge.  The get their name from the sharp Killdeer cry they emit.  When you get close to the nest, they will often fake a broken wing to lure you away.
