Size 13" Dark back and
crown. Buffy streaked breast. Their flight looks hampered and their
legs dangle as they almost hover from one spot to another. They primarily
travel through the reeds and not the air.
I have found the Least
Bittern several times over the past few years. It has always been on
a fresh water marsh with lots of water plants. The marsh beside the
Port Charlotte Super Wal-Mart was where this photo was taken. They were
there for a couple years, but I didn't see them last year. Last year I
found one at the mash beside Charlotte County's Environmental Campus on
Harborview Blvd, but I haven't seen any this year yet.
