Size 27"  Dark overall with a purplish head.  The bill is two toned silver gray and black.  Immature Little Blue Herons are white and are often misidentified as Snowy Egrets.  Little Blue's have the two toned bill and Snowy Egrets have yellow feet.

Little Blue Herons are common here.  The nests I have found are amongst the cattails or low willow branches near by.  They nest in colonies sometimes with Tri Colored Herons.  One colony I found is on the low end of an island opposite a colony of Egrets, Anhinga and Great Egrets
