Size 19"  Blue gray back, reddish neck, short orange to yellow legs.  Immature is similar to adult but with streaking on the neck.

The Little Green Heron is a common bird to Charlotte County.  While sitting, it holds its neck in like the night heron.   I have found it nesting in ones or twos. The nests were in willow branches and overhanging fresh water ponds.  When startled they often let out a large high-pitched alarm.
