Size : 14"  Dark duck like bird with a yellow tipped red bill and red forehead.  Immature is brownish all over.

The Common Moorhen is often found diving in fresh water ponds and canals with cattails and water plants.  It nests in the cattails and has a sort of exotic call with a wide variety of noises.   Occasionally in open water, but mostly found along the vegetation.  I have seen them with young, but never actually located a nest.
