Size : 7"  Sandy pale above with incomplete neck ring. Short bill.  Female usually lighter in color.

The Piping Plover is a winter resident along our shores.  In winter the bill is black and in late spring and summer it turns orange with a black tip.  It is most easily differentiated from the Snowy Plover by the color of its legs.  The Piping Plover has yellow to red legs and the Snowy black.  The Snowy's bill in black year round.    Both have faint a faint ring on the neck and dark foreheads.
