Size : 30"  Blue gray body with a red brown head and dark legs.  It also comes occasionally in pure white.  Both versions have pink bill tipped in black.

The Reddish Egret is not all that common here, but is occasionally seen on the flats in low tides.  This one was near Stump Pass in Englewood.  Although they look a lot like the Little Blue Heron, their behavior is quite different.  They seem to dart around and sometimes spread their wings to scare their prey into movement.  They then jump and strike to catch them.  They are very active while feeding.
