Size : 20"   Seen only on the coast.  Black cap with large orange bill.  White breast and gray wings.  In winter it looses the black crest and has just a black patch behind the eye.  The immature has a lighter orange bill.

The Royal Tern is a common along the beach.  It nests on sandy beaches in colonies and in singles. Though I have seen it courting, I have yet to find a nest here.
