Size - 7" : Complete dark neck ring in all plumages.   In summer bill orange with black tip, in winter bill black.  Legs are a dull orange.

The Semi-palmated Plover is a winter resident.  It is distinguished from the Piping Plover by its dark full neck ring.  Piping Plovers are much lighter.  It is distinguished from the Wilson's Plover by its much shorter bill and orange legs as opposed to the Wilson's large bill and black legs.  Snowy Plovers resemble it somewhat, but the Snowy doesn't have the full neck ring, has black legs and is much lighter.   They are found along the beaches here in Charlotte County and do not nest here.
