Size - 17" : Long downward curved bill.   Speckled grey-brown with bold black crown stripes.  Pale grey legs and very pointed wings in flight. 

The Whimbrel is an uncommon bird.  It is found in loose groups or in singles.  They are not supposed to mix with other species, but this one was mixed with Willets near Stump Pass.
