We have many raptors here throughout the year. Several are very uncommon such as the Burrowing Owl, Snail Kite and Crested Caracara. The Red-shouldered Hawk is probably the most common here, especially in the winter. Year round resident birds tend to be a lighter color, presumedly due to the heavy sun year round here. Northern migrants tend to be darker. At last count we had 28 Bald Eagle nests in Charlotte County. Burrowing Owls are primarily in the south and eastern part of the county.
